About Geoversiv Envisioning

Geoversiv.net is a media, research, design, and solutions-spreading endeavor, aimed at identifying and elaborating the ingredients of a clean future of global abundance.

What does that mean?

We have operated, throughout all of human history, according to an assumption that what some human beings have, others cannot. We have been playing a zero-sum game, and in the process, misunderstood the scope of our impact on natural life-support systems. The result has been a culture of competition and innovation, but with a very high waste content.

Now that we have an interconnected global civilization, in which harm to one can quickly become harm to all, that inefficient use of resources puts all human systems at risk of destabilization. We need to engage with natural systems in a smarter, more resilient, and more visionary way.

Nature provides us with more than enough to sustain Earth’s life-support systems, and to provide for all human beings everywhere.

Geoversiv therefore embraces Buckminster Fuller’s observation that “the human brain is Nature’s most powerful anti-entropy engine” and seeks to envision—deliberately and with care and conscience—those over-the-horizon projects, technologies and collaborative capabilities that will foster success in our efforts to reduce entropy and expand sustainability, globally. If we succeed, as a civilization, in doing this, we will enter into a clean future of global abundance, where we have energy and technology, available to all, on a scale never before seen, and with a production-to-waste profile far lower than human societies have ever before achieved.

The ephemeralization we see in information technology is an example of the shift toward ever more lightweight, high-capacity solutions.

As we expand that trend to other modes of human technological capacity-building, we will move our civilization toward a zero-waste, zero-combustion paradigm, in  which our relationship to natural systems is sustainable, resilient, and conducive to a higher degree of long-term ecological thriving.

Geoversiv.net brings together various previous manifestations of this project, including the HotSpring Network, the HotSpring Quarterly, the ClimateTalks.info roundtables series, the GreenNOVAtion community, FuelFree.me, the Quipu Catalytic Commons, and the original Geoversiv Envisioning. In this new incarnation, Geoversiv aims to centralize and simplify this project of collective brainstorming, and to provide—through this website and through public events and collaborations—as much solid, verifiable, and transformational information as possible to the project of building a more humane and imaginative future of sustainable human thriving

As did the HotSpring Network, Geoversiv.net will remain focused on and committed to hunting the paradigm shift, to building a humane future, and to the insight that, at all turns, better is possible.

A Foundation for Geoversiv Envisioning

We call this work of building imaginative, catalytic pathways to achieve this smarter, more resilient, more humane and democratic future, Geoversiv envisioning. This publication, and the work of Geoversiv envisioning, are supported by the Geoversiv Foundation—a nonpartisan, nonprofit foundation, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Geoversiv Foundation exists to support and empower innovative projects oriented toward achieving social good—through promotion of:

  1. climate solutions,
  2. clean energy innovation and deployment,
  3. responsible enterprise,
  4. education,
  5. peacebuilding, and
  6. expansion of the civic space.

We encourage and support the flow of best-quality analysis and information, by:

  • operating and sustaining Geoversiv.net and related publications,
  • collaborating in the design and convening of outcome-oriented dialogues,
  • connecting people and ideas whose coming together uniquely expands the realm of shared human knowledge, and
  • directing resources toward potentially catalytic collaborations…

in support of ongoing, sustainable success in the six areas of human endeavor listed above: climate, energy, enterprise, education, peace, and civics.
