The Geoversiv project starts from this core idea:

We have the ability to understand what exists around us, to identify our own shortcomings and needs, and to consciously improve what is possible, locally and generally. Acting on that ability makes more sense than not; the optimal outcome is, by definition, within the realm of the possible.

In the words of R. Buckminster Fuller, “The human brain is Nature’s most powerful anti-entropy engine.” We do not have to accept systemic breakdown.

The hope, for all of us, lies not in raw brainpower, but in the intentional use of our human abilities, to collaboratively solve problems, imagine better futures, and with steady hard work, bring them into being.

In 2026, we should not have to name the elements of this way of being human together, but because our everyday discourse is so full of toxic distractions and inappropriate claims to great and unyielding power, we must name them. To make a world that works, where our very humanity is valued and defended, and where imagination and decency rule the day, instead of tyranny and greed, a few things are needed:

1. The active, everyday defense of the right of all people to be fully human, independent, thinking and feeling beings, with access to good and helpful information and the freedom to make real and honest choices.
2. Political structures that are bound by law not to interfere with the right to learn, to gather and share information, to speak truth to power, and to bear witness for the benefit of innocent and defenseless people, and in service of future generations.
3. Institutions that support these rights by supporting the advancement of scientific inquiry and the dissemination of both the best available science and the benefits of its application.
4. A societal commitment to invest in people, in education, healthcare, community-level leadership, innovative small-scale enterprise, and generalized opportunity—to have a voice, to be considered, to develop skills and talents, to participate in shaping the future.
5. Mechanisms that empower ordinary people to improve economic development and investment scenarios, and to shape and reshape political outcomes.

We can succeed, as a global civilization, in eliminating climate pollution and preventing climate breakdown, if we make sure these five elements are operative in our dealings. We can succeed in reducing the incidence of armed conflict, and even the seeds of conflict, to near zero, if we work to bring these five elements of human thriving to people everywhere.

Implicit in all five is the recognition that we need to favor financial structures and methods that reward humanizing treatment of others and disincentivize dehumanization.

Modern societies, rooted so often in revolutions against colonial and authoritarian rule, are premised, in part, on the idea that we will achieve that kind of societal financial liberation. Self-government is a vote for the idea that stakeholders should have a vote, rather than being forced to absorb unfair treatment.

We do not need to imagine, let alone accept, that somehow the world is better if all expenditures carry a degree of injustice. We can do better; we have so long wanted to do better; doing better is built into the logic of self-government.

This is the purpose of Resilience Intelligence, as an area of inquiry, innovation, and practice.

In our piece on shifting from exploitation to elevation as the logic of finance and enterprise, we laid out five principles for data that works in service of human health and wellbeing:

1. You have a right to know—whether you are consuming something that can harm you, whether you are improving or degrading the health of Nature, or of your community or your country. 
2. That right can be served faithfully by businesses operating in good faith, telling the truth about their activities, and providing you with facts about their ingredients, methods, and value chains.
3. Digital technology makes it easy to attach labels to any product or service, detailing their ingredients, methods, and value chains. 
4. Government can reward the best actors, who serve this need intentionally, faithfully, and effectively, giving enhanced agency to their customers.
5. The business of gathering, parsing, synthesizing, and translating relevant data should be supported by public and private investment, to enhance value creation.

The common thread between these principles and the five elements of human thriving listed above is that facts and evidence point us toward better ways of serving humanity, for the benefit of others, and to honor our own right to live in a world free from deprivation and abuse. It is common sense that we should pursue the best possible outcome.

We are all future-builders.

What we must do now is act on the best information we have, to honor and serve our common humanity and secure the future.
