Global Status Update

The Geoversiv Foundation — in support of the ACCESS to GOOD Project, the Peace Synapse Climate Security Knowledge Graph, and Living Future Strategies — will hold an annual event to report on the status of its observations and future-building projects around the world.

This inaugural Global Status Update will take place from 1:30 pm to 4:45 pm, on Monday, April 24, 2017, at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, and will cover issues relating to climate action, the energy transition, the building of the civic space, strategies for full-spectrum sustainable development, and the relationship of all of these to peace and security.

A new way of seeing the landscape of human knowledge, political will, and capability…

The ‘Peace Synapse‘ Graph on Climate, Peace and Security traces knowledge relationships across the world, linking individuals, institutions, crisis situations, response scenarios and strategic planning initiatives. It is the beginning of an effort to not only trace knowledge relationships, but to offer substantive support to enhance the flow of useful information and to ground-truth scientific research and policy.

How the living future will be made…

The landscape of human need and aspiration (what economists call ‘demand’) is a landscape of challenge and imagination, capability and collaboration. Value exchange operates far beyond the specific momentary dollar value of any given transaction, and sum-total measurements like Gross Domestic Product (GDP) lead us into zero-sum thinking (if you gain, I lose, and vice-versa).

The limitations of this approach to adjudicating value exchange are imposing themselves like never before. We have reached the extreme end of the usability of this paradigm.

As the world moves increasingly toward intelligent, automated, ephemeral productive strategies and practices, and as escalating resource scarcity becomes a lose-lose scenario for all involved, we need a new way to understand value and to envision future exchange. Generative economics allows us to account for the value added from practices that expand the resource base, instead of depleting it.
